STEP 2: From the menu, select File, then select New Audio Recording. If you would like to record audio to your Mac using QuickTime Player, refer to the steps below: QuickTime Player is a built-in software in Mac that allows you to easily record external audio from external audio devices without the need of any additional software. So before purchasing an audio device, always make sure to check with the manufacturer. NOTE: Mac OS X supports the ASIO (Audio Stream Input/Output) standard, which majority of the USB devices are developed for. Many of these devices are already Mac-compatible and does not require any drivers to install. Although your Mac computer has a built-in microphone (except for Mac Mini and Mac Pro) that you can use for recording audio, it is recommended to use a dedicated audio device such as an external USB microphone to be able to achieve the best audio quality. If you want to capture audio such as vocals, musical instruments, or just dictating notes, you need a way of getting that external audio captured into your computer.
